Teaching awards and grants recognize and fund pedagogical innovation and excellence. The Teaching Awards & Grants Database provides an overview of the divisional and institutional teaching awards and grants available across the University of Toronto as well as major external teaching awards.

Use the database to search for a specific award or grant using the search bar, or filter the database using these eligibility requirements:

Division (including institutional awards).
Award or grant type (i.e., “Early Career” or “Experiential”).
U of T position (i.e., “teaching stream faculty” or “teaching assistant”).

Unit 3 Sessional Instructional Assistants Award

This award has been established for Sessional Instructional Assistants (SIAs) in CUPE 3902 Unit 3 who have served in a Sessional Instructional Assistant (SIA) role at UTSC in at least two different terms, including in at least one of the terms of the current academic year (Summer, Fall, Winter). This category includes Writing Instructors.Up to three awards are offered per year in this category.

The award is intended to recognize sustained teaching excellence in the classroom, educational leadership and contributions to the teaching community at UTSC. Up to three awards will be offered per year in this category.

This award can only be awarded once; previous recipients are ineligible for nomination.

OISE faculty members holding a tenure stream or teaching stream appointment, contractually-limited term appointment, part-time academic appointment, or sessional lecturer appointment with at least two years teaching experience in teacher education programs at OISE (MT, MA-CSE). This award can only be awarded once; previous recipients are ineligible for nomination.

David E. Hunt Award for Excellence in Graduate Education

OISE faculty members holding continuing tenure stream or teaching stream appointments with at least two years of graduate teaching experience in OISE graduate programs (MA, MEd, PhD and EdD) other than teacher education programs.As a career achievement award, the David E. Hunt Award for Excellence in Graduate Education can only be awarded once; previous recipients are ineligible for nomination.

Louise Lemieux-Charles Health System Leadership Award

Any member of the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME) community may be nominated. Nominees must not be in a chief executive officer (CEO) or similar role (executive director of an organization, deputy minister or minister) nor have occupied that role in the past. This limitation will only hold for organizations with a budget of greater than $10 million. This means that executive directors of small organizations or start-up companies will be eligible.
