Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations (OCUFA) Teaching Award
Division :
Type : External Teaching Award / Fellowship
More Information : https://ocufa.on.ca/ocufa-awards/teaching-and-academic-librarianship-awards/
Description
Teaching, in the context of the OCUFA awards, embraces virtually all levels of instruction – graduate and undergraduate teaching, continuing education and faculty development. Similarly, proficiency in teaching may extend well beyond the classroom, the laboratory or the faculty member’s office. Activities such as course design, curriculum development, organization of teaching programs and other significant forms of leadership are often important contributions to the instructional process. Those who excel in any of these are eligible for the OCUFA Teaching Awards.
Approval for Nominations: Head of Department or Division (NB: faculty member must be a member of UTFA and UTFA must be notified of nomination).
Timeline for Preparing Nominations for OCUFA Awards:
- June to July: Academic units / divisions internally discuss and identify candidates and seek approval from the relevant head of the academic unit / division; notify the University of Toronto Faculty Association
- July to October: Begin the process of preparing the nomination dossier including soliciting letters of support, compiling supporting documentation and writing award file narrative by the nominator, candidate and / or academic unit / division
- NB: The Centre for Teaching Support & Innovation recommends beginning the dossier preparation sooner than this if possible. For example, it’s best if letters can be solicited before the summer starts; certainly, other materials for the nomination dossier can be compiled and the nominee’s personal statements can be written over the summer before classes start in the fall
- November-December: Review of complete draft by academic unit / division and the candidate
- January: Final review and revisions of completed nomination file by academic unit / division and the candidate
- March: Nomination packages must be submitted online by the nominator to the OCUFA Selection Committee. Deadline is in March of every year.
If you’re interested in submitting a nomination for OCUFA, please reach out to the Centre for Teaching Support & Innovation for a consultation and support in preparing a nomination dossier.
